We knew he didn’t do much before it happened, and now Jinder Mahal reveals that WWE effectively retired him before his release.

He may have gotten one last really cool moment, coming out opposite The Rock early in 2024. And he may have parlayed a Tony Khan comment into a title shot. But the former Jinder Mahal has let us know that, for the two years prior to his release from WWE , the company viewed him as largely retired.

The former Jinder Mahal is now going by Raj Dhesi. And Dhesi sat down with the Talk is Jericho podcast to discuss his time with WWE, specifically his release experience. Per Dhesi, based on how things had been handled, and some conversations, WWE was treating him as retired talent.

As he reflects on his time with the company, as well as what his future holds? Dhesi was frank. He cannot, of course, use Jinder Mahal outside of WWE. But in a stroke of luck, he can use The Maharajah anywhere he wants. But as he thought back over the final two or so years of his now-former WWE contract? He can notice that much of his final few months in the company had him serve as the manager for Indus Sher. Outside of that stunning bait and switch appearance earlier this year, he had done very little that involves wrestling in a WWE sanctioned event.

When pressed on it, the WWE officials explained to Mahal, a former world champ, that they viewed him as a “not active performer”. He was showing up weekly and not being used, so it was a tough pill. In spite of being released, and of being “retired”by WWE way before he wanted to be? Dhesi remains in good spirits, and according to the man himself, he has been in contact with several promotions. He may not have landed a gig yet, but it isn’t for lack of options. Hopefully he lands somewhere soon and proves the doubters wrong.
