He said he never wanted to win AEW gold, so why did Bryan Danielson actually win the title at All In 2024?

It’s been a challenging grind of a year for the American Dragon. He’s battled injuries, with his doctors telling him he needs surgery as soon as possible for that troublesome neck. His injuries have been so bad that he was told not to wrestle leading up to All In, and getting cleared for the Wembley event was not easy. But it all worked out, and in the end, Danielson was in the middle of the ring, your new AEW World Champion.

But Why?

No one is denying his talents. Everyone is aware that, despite his durability issues over the years, he is one of the best of his-or any-generation. I would argue that his health issues maybe take him down a notch, but his greatness is undeniable. In that aspect, a world title win is and was deserved. But it goes against what Danielson wanted, so why?

Especially knowing that he is basically done. He said the AEW contract he signed would be his last full time one, and that expired earlier in August. He’d be going against his word to his children if he inks a new deal and wrestles much longer. Plus, there are those pesky doctors.

But the reason why Bryan Danielson gave in and went along with winning the title? Tony Khan, per Fightful . The AEW owner insisted on having the American Dragon become champion before calling it a career, and he got his way. Given Danielson’s medical issues and contract status, it will be interesting to see how long he serves as AEW Champion. But, for now, he is, and seeing Bryan Danielson with the AEW title is a nice sight indeed.
