The Undertaker Reveals Surprising Original Plan And Outlook For Kane In WWE

During a new edition of his podcast, the Undertaker revealed some surprising information about how much faith WWE brass had in the character Kane.

The Undertaker is one of the greatest performers ever to grace a professional wrestling ring. What makes “The Deadman” so special is that his character went through many evolutions during an incomparable 30-year run in the company.

One of the most notable was his late 1990s feud with his “brother” Kane. The setup for their match at Wrestlemania was a great piece of storytelling as Kane was a sympathetic villain who was forgotten by his older brother and was back for revenge.

The feud would also go on to set up a legendary run in WWE for Glenn Jacobs, AKA Kane. His time as the character was so impactful that he and the Undertaker are now forever linked and considered the two best big men wrestlers the business has ever seen. However, it seems the company did not see much in the character beyond one good feud and match.

The Undertaker says Kane was only supposed to be around for a short amount of time

“Early on, they were just bringing him in for an opponent for me to beat. This was going to be a short-term deal,” the Undertaker said on a new edition of his “ Six Feet Under ” podcast. “They had no idea this was going to be what it turned out to be. They were bringing him in for me and it turned into something just a little bit bigger.”

It’s not completely surprising that the company did not expect the Kane character to last more than that year. Jacobs had previously been given characters like the fake Diesel and Dr. Isaac Yankem DDS that failed miserably. However, the rest is now history. And the Undertaker’s brother ended up being one of the best performers in the company for two decades.
