It was an epic moment to close RAW, but the Jey Uso Intercontinental Championship win made WWE history.

Jey Uso has had shots before, but he had never done it. The decorated former tag team specialist has worked plenty of singles matches, especially in recent months. Now one of WWE’s top singles talents, he has had a crack at singles gold a few times lately, but had been coming up empty. That all changed in a big way in California on Monday night. In the main event of the September 23rd RAW, Jey Uso defeated Bron Breakker to get his first WWE singles championship.

And it was an historic win

It’s a bit of interesting history too. With the win, Uso and his father, the recently disgruntled Rikishi , become just the second father-son duo in WWE history to hold the Intercontinental Championship. The duo now get to see their names in the history books next to Mr. Perfect (Curt Hennig) and his son Curtis Axel. Both of the Hennigs had decently long Intercontinental Championship reigns. Perfect had a couple, holding gold for more than a year in total. Curtis Axel wrapped his reign up with just over 100.

Jey Uso should hope he has a bit better luck than dear old dad. In Rikishi’s one and only singles title reign for WWE , he had gold over his shoulder for just 13 days. Fingers crossed that the Yeet Master has much better luck and booking this time around. As popular as he has been, the flowers are very much deserved. But given all that is going on, and all that is expected? I would not be shocked to see someone from the Bloodline interfere and cut Jey’s first reign short. All in the name of perhaps setting up a WarGames family reunion. So, will Jey Uso continue to make more WWE history?
