CM Punk Predicts John Cena Retirement Opponent And It Is Not Randy Orton

With John Cena retiring, CM Punk thinks his final match will not be against longtime rival Randy Orton because it is not good for business.

We all knew John Cena was not going to be sticking around WWE as an active wrestler in his 50s. Although, his 2025 retirement announcement caught many off-guard. He compete at WrestleMania 41 and retire sometime next year. Details of what Cena or WWE have planned have not been revealed. CM Punk has been open about wanting to wrestle or team with Cena before he leaves. Those two have history, including one of the best angles where Punk defeated Cena and “left WWE” as champion. Instead, he re-signed earlier in the day and few knew.

On 1035 KISSFM , Punk went over Cena’s career and thinks Randy Orton as his final opponent makes sense, but Gunther would be better for business. “I think it’s easy to say, you could say Orton,” said Punk. “I think some people would say me. Knowing John, I’m assuming it’s going to be somebody new someone he can hand the baton to. So, it might be Gunther. It might be somebody that he has his eye on that nobody else is really seeing. You don’t know. That’s what’s exciting to me about it really.”

Should John Cena Put Over The Future Or Past?

Yes, when a legend retires, he or she should put someone over at the end. While that was the case, top names like The Undertaker and Ric Flair did not follow. It is possible Cena loses to the future during his retirement tour, only to win his last match.

Honestly, Gunther is a great candidate. Also, Bron Breakker needs to be in the mix. His biggest issue is being new to the game. Gunther is an established main event wrestler. A win over Cena would continue to elevate him. Before Cena retires, he will work with Orton and Punk. Gunther and Breakker is more of a guess.
