    Little League Roundup: Rising Sun's Seniors Softball run ends at regionals

    Rising Sun’s Seniors Softball All-Stars, who recently brought a District 5 and Maryland State Championship back to Cecil County, saw their summer push come to an end on Monday in a 13-1 loss to Connecticut’s Bristol Girls Little League in the quarterfinals of the East Region Tournament.

    Rising Sun’s lone run of the game came on an RBI-double from Bailey Vaughan in the fifth inning. Sun’s Gemma Brand, Leah Felty and Kelly Dabler each finished with two hits. Vaughan, Emma McBride and Kendall Lehr recorded a hit.

    Rising Sun’s All-Stars finished the summer with an overall record of 7-3, including an undefeated record in District 5 and Maryland State Tournament play.

    Rising Sun Majors Baseball wins District 5 Championship

    Rising Sun captured a District 5 crown on July 12 with a 21-2 win over Chesapeake City. Levi McDowell, Braylon Phillips, Carter Beach, Cooper Baynes, Jaxson Shuler and Colton Dye each finished with multi-RBI games. Beach, McDowell and Jarrett Goodman combined for 12 strikeouts and three hits on the mound. Rising Sun outscored its opponents 52-9 in District 5 play. Rising Sun won its first two games of the state tournament against South Baltimore on Sunday and Montgomery County Little League on Monday. Sun will be back in action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. against West Salisbury with the winner advancing to the state final.

    Rising Sun Intermediate Baseball reaches state title game

    After being the only team in District 5 to boast an Intermediate All-Star team, Rising Sun’s squad competed in the state tournament in Clear Spring. Sun finished the multi-day tournament two wins away from winning a state crown. Rising Sun won its first game of the tournament with a 17-7 victory over South Baltimore, before suffering a loss to Hub City Little League. Rising Sun worked its way through the bottom half of the bracket with three straight wins of 12-2, 4-3 and 15-5 to reach the state title game. In a rematch with Hub City, Rising Sun lost 6-2.

    Rising Sun’s Intermediate Baseball All-Star team included: Aiden Greer, Mason Nahm, Luke Serra, Wyatt Liedlich, James Warner, Jack Coale, Logan Wood, Reyn Placentino, Avery Alexander, Aaron Rouselle, Alex Skica, Cason Stewart, Derrick Warner (Manager), Grant Alexander (Coach), Jeff Coale (Coach), Preston Greer (Coach), Dewey Stanley (Coach), Larry Trout (Coach)

    Rising Sun Juniors Baseball plays in state title game

    Following its District 5 title win in June, Rising Sun worked its way through the state tournament bracket to reach the state championship game on July 11. After a 10-7 loss to open tournament play, Rising Sun rattled off wins of 18-1, 6-5 and 7-0 to reach the state final. Rising Sun fell to Dorchester Little League in the state title game.

    North East 10U, Rising Sun 11U, Elkton Seniors Baseball compete in state tournaments

    The trio of North East, Rising Sun and Elkton represented District 5 in their respective Maryland State Tournaments. North East and Elkton each went 1-2 in tournament play. North East’s 10U All-Stars picked up a win against Home Run Baker Little League. Elkton’s Seniors All-Stars’ lone victory came against Calvert County. Rising Sun’s 11U All-Stars were eliminated in two games.

    Chesapeake City Majors, North East 10U, Rising Sun 11U Softball battle in state tournaments

    North East’s 10U All-Stars and Rising Sun’s 11U All-Stars each finished with a 1-2 record in their respective state tournaments, which included a state final appearance for Rising Sun. North East’s single victory in the state tournament came in a 14-0 win over South Baltimore. Chesapeake City’s Majors All-Stars fell in consecutive games to DelMar Little League and Dorchester Little League.
