Man pleads guilty to 2nd-degree murder after appellate court declines to hear case
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A man who previously contested evidence he fatally shot an Ypsilanti man has now pleaded guilty. Roughly three months after the Michigan Court of Appeals declined to consider whether Roger Lee Pierce’s statements to police were inadmissible in court, the 54-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and using a firearm during a felony, court records show.
Washtenaw ISD Awarded $5.6 million Grant to Provide Early Childhood Educational Opportunities
With help from a federal grant, the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) will continue to offer educational opportunities to preschool-age kids. The WISD announced on July 22, the “Office of Head Start (OHS), a part of the federal Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families, awarded a $5.6 million grant to the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) to continue providing Head Start preschool for 3- and 4-year-old students and Early Head Start home-based home visiting for families with children ages birth to 3.”
Concrete patching work on part of I-75 in Oakland County begins, prompting 10-day closure
(CBS DETROIT) - Michigan Department of Transportation crews will begin a concrete patching project on a portion of I-75 in Oakland County this week, officials said. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's office announced that this project, along with three others, will begin this week as she continues to "fix the damn roads" throughout the state. The other projects include resurfacing on I-196 in Allegan County and pavement sealing on M-553 in Marquette County. These projects are expected to support 243 jobs. Michigan gas prices raise 10 cents in last week as supply slows, AAA reports
The cost for filling a gas tank has gone up in the last week. Michigan gas prices have risen since last week by ten cents a gallon on average, according to AAA. In Detroit, a gallon of gas costs on average $3.64. That's 11 cents more expensive than last week and 14 cents more expensive than the national average. For 15 gallons — a full tank for many — that works out to about $55.
