Tanger Outlets Riverhead is adding a new recreation facility to itsroster of tenants.
Pickleball Smash-It will be opening in an8,000-square-foot space next to the Columbia outlet store at the Riverhead retail complex.
This will be the second Long Island location for Pickleball Smash-It, following the 11,125-square-foot facility the brand opened at the Samanea New York mall in Westbury last October.
The Riverhead Pickleball Smash-It featurestwo indoor, tournament-quality courts with couches, free Wi-Fi and the ability to control music from players’ own phones, according to a company statement. The no-membership-required club will also offer space for private group events and $10, two-hour open-play sessions, along with lessons for adults and youth clinics provided by local coaches.
Riverhead is one of three Tanger centers to have Pickleball Smash-It, as the growing chain will soon open facilities at Tanger Outlet Foxwoods in Connecticut and Tanger Outlets Atlantic City.
“As one of three Tanger properties to welcome Pickleball Smash-it to our roster of diverse retailers, we’re excited for shoppers to have access to more entertainment options when visiting us,” Tanger Riverhead Marketing Director Lesley Anthony said in the statement. “Pickleball has quickly become a popular sport among our active Long Island community, and we’re confident guests will find Pickleball Smash-It’s modern facility to be the perfect place to spend time with family and friends.”
The pickleball chain is also negotiating leases for other locations on Long Island.
“We’re in rapid expansion,” said Christopher Wierzbicki, a principal of Pickleball Smash-It. “This concept seems to be working and we’re taking high-profile spaces. We’re looking to double our units by the end of the year.”
The 100% autonomous Pickleball Smash-It doesn’t charge membership fees, no guest fees when reserving time and no annual costs or commitments to play at their facilities. Players book online or through aCourt Reserve App, receiving a unique code that allows access during their allocated time reserved.
The Pickleball Smash-It at Tanger Outlets Riverhead is expected to open by the end of the month.
