Around two-dozen people, most of them children, swimming in a pool at a Riverside park suffered exposure symptoms Wednesday possibly related to chlorine or other chemicals in the water.

The hazardous materials emergency was reported shortly after 3 p.m. at Villegas Park, 3091 Esperanza St., according to the Riverside Fire Department.

Paramedics reached the location minutes later and began triaging the patients, none of whom appeared to be suffering any serious complications, officials said.

It wasn't immediately clear whether any of the victims required medical treatment at a hospital.

The pool was closed while a fire department hazmat unit conducted an investigation.

There are youth summer camps underway citywide, and the pool is being used by some of the children enrolled in the camps.
