Travis Chambers sworn in as newest Columbus City Councilor
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Friday afternoon, the newest Columbus councilor was sworn in at the Government Center. Chief Superior Court Judge Art Smith and Probate Judge Marc D’Antonio swore in real estate broker and nonprofit executive Travis Chambers for District 10 post. The ceremony began just past 3:30 p.m.

Did your phone lose service for a while on Tuesday? You weren't the only one. Verizon customers across the Augusta area reported outages. According to Downdetector, at its peak between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., there were more than 5,000 reports and they largely came from Augusta, North Augusta, Hephzibah, and Evans. Customers reported their service was restored later that afternoon.
Piedmont Region Faces Dangerous Heat Wave, Heat Advisory in Effect for Charlotte and Surrounding Areas
A sweltering heatwave is set to firmly grip the Piedmont region of Northeast Georgia, North Carolina and upstate South Carolina, with astronomical heat index values that could soar up to 108, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Residents in Charlotte and surrounding areas are under a heat advisory effective from 11 AM until 8 PM EDT today, as the mercury is expected to climb near the century mark, combining with high humidity to produce potentially dangerous conditions. The NWS cautions that hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
