One dead in Riverton officer-involved shooting

RIVERTON, Utah ( ABC4 ) — One person is dead after a field sobriety test went awry in Riverton on Friday, according to Riverton Police .

Shortly after midnight on July 5, police received reports of a hit-and-run crash involving a side-by-side near the Riverton City Park.

An officer responded to the scene, found the side-by-side, and conducted a traffic stop.

Upon pulling the individual over, the officer suspected that alcohol was involved, and decided to have the driver undergo a field sobriety test.

During the sobriety test, the driver reportedly became highly aggressive. The officer then fired his weapon, killing the suspect.
