August 1st begins “beans in the jar” month to predict upcoming snows for winter 2024-2025 season
The August tradition of placing a bean in a jar to predict the number of upcoming winter snowfalls is about to get underway once again. For every foggy morning in August, a bean (you can also use coins since they are more readily available) is placed in a jar. A big bean is used for a heavy fog and a small bean for a light fog. If you are using coins, then use a quarter as a “big bean” and a penny or dime for a “small bean”.
SCHOOL SPORTS: Fall practice officially opens Monday; middle school football kicks off this week
High School fall sports across the state of Tennessee will officially hit practice fields and courts on Monday, July 29th. In Manchester, the Coffee County Central volleyball team will be the first to get at it – hitting the court at 3:15 p.m. Meanwhile, Lady Raider soccer will work from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Raider Academy and the CHS football team will have its first full-padded workout at 4 p.m. at the CHS practice field.
