Indictment returned in matricide case
A woman accused of killing her own mother has been indicted by a Roane County grand jury. Marie Hefner of Athens, Tennessee, is charged with first-degree murder. Hefner’s mother, Bertha Lorraine Schrum Lodewegen, lived at 109 Circle Drive near Rockwood. She was found deceased in her basement on April 21. Lodewegen, who was 75, reportedly had a wound to her neck. The cause of her death was determined to be homicide.
