Pinpoint Weather: Dangerously hot weather into the evening

ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) – Isolated showers and storms will pop up across the region this afternoon and evening. There’s a chance some storms could become strong to severe. Mostly north of RT 24 east of the Blue Ridge. In this area, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 PM.

This afternoon remains hot with the air temperatures well into the mid-90s for areas along and east of the Blue Ridge. The NRV and Highlands will also be hot in the upper 80s.

The combination of the heat and humidity has created the potential for dangerously high heat index temperatures above 100 degrees. Where the heat index temperatures are from 104 to 108, the NWS has issued a Heat Advisory until 8 PM.

The hot weather is expected to continue well into the middle of the month.

Rainfall will continue to be below normal with isolated to scattered showers and storms.
