ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — A weak front will linger near the Mid-Atlantic on Thursday, providing the region with scattered showers and isolated storms. However, a stronger front will bring changes by the end of the week.

Expect periods of rain on Thursday as scattered showers and isolated storms impact the region. Overall, it will be cloudy and warm. Some sunshine may peek out during the afternoon. Morning lows will be in the 60s and lower 70s while afternoon temperatures will rise into the lower/middle 80s. Pockets of heavy rainfall are possible, so localized flooding remains a concern.

A stronger front will push through Southwest and Central Virginia overnight Thursday with high pressure following behind. A few showers and storms are possible on Friday, more so south of US 460. Otherwise, a mix of sun and clouds will be overhead with afternoon temperatures reaching the lower and middle 80s.

Stray showers or storms cannot be ruled out for the weekend, but the weather pattern looks drier thanks to the area of high pressure. For Saturday and Sunday, expect a mix of sun and clouds overhead with afternoon temperatures warming into the 80s.

High pressure will move away from the East Coast late Sunday with moist southwest flow increasing on Monday. Scattered showers and storms are anticipated on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Temperatures will trend warmer, too. Expect highs in the 80s to near 90 degrees for the first half of the upcoming week.
