ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — While the chance of rain is not completely out of the forecast, Southwest and Central Virginia will trend drier into the weekend.

A backdoor front will move through the region on Friday. This front will keep skies variably cloudy overhead. A few isolated showers and storms could develop. The severe risk is low, but downpours may occur. It will still be muggy with temperatures rising into the lower/middle 80s by the afternoon.

An area of high pressure will build in from the north, bringing mostly dry conditions for the weekend. Isolated mountain showers and storms cannot be ruled out. Otherwise, a mix of sun and clouds will be overhead on Saturday and Sunday. Morning temperatures will start in the 60s while afternoon highs will be in the seasonably warm 80s.

Unsettled weather returns for the upcoming week. High pressure will move away from the East Coast late Sunday while warm and moist air will begin to move through starting Monday. Scattered showers and storms are possible through the middle of the week.

The warm air will also allow for a gradual warming trend next week. For Monday, highs will be in the lower/middle 80s. However, afternoon temperatures in the middle/upper 80s and lower 90s are anticipated by Wednesday and Thursday.
