ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) – A few strong to severe storms are possible in the Mountain Empire overnight. There is a chance that the strongest storms stay outside the region. If any strong storms appear, gusty winds would be the main threat.

Showers and storms will return to the region on Tuesday as temperatures get warmer and humidity remains in place.

Generally, rainfall will be light over the next couple of days, but heavy downpours are possible in localized areas in thunderstorms.

Temperatures will trend warmer starting Wednesday and continuing into early next week as high temperatures return to the 90s.

In the tropics, there is a 50 percent chance that a wave, currently centered east of the Windward Islands, will form into a tropical cyclone in the week ahead. By early next week, this system could be near Florida.
