Vols take the podium in Dallas
SEC Football Media Days were held in the Lone Star State for the first time, with Tennessee making the rounds on the event’s second day. Fourth-year head coach Josh Heupel, senior center Cooper Mays, senior linebacker Keenan Pili and senior defensive tackle Omari Thomas represented the Vols at the Omni Dallas on Wednesday. The quartet spent the day visiting with members of the local, regional and national media to preview the upcoming 2024 season.
Wilkes-Barre Scranton Elks present grant for veterans' benefit
Wilkes-Barre Scranton Elks Lodge No. 109 recently presented Luke Malonis, Catholic Charities case manager of St. Hedwig's Village, with the National Benevolent and protective Order of the Elks $1,000 Freedom Grant and a $200 donation by Lodge 109. Also, 12 $100 Gerrity's grocery gift cards were purchased for the 12 veterans living at St Hedwig's apartments. Veterans living at St Hedwig's qualify by having a disability and a history of experiencing homelessness. There is also a PSHP program by Catholic Charities which spreads out homeless veterans with a disability throughout the area as well. For information the programs, call Malonis a 570-906-0764. Donations of food, clothing, hygiene products can also be accepted. Malonis said that Christmas time is usually a good time when donations or gift cards are received, but it is a struggle for these vets throughout the year and these grocery cards coming in the summer will be a blessing.
