I sat on a crowded pool deck the day I realized how bad it was. Hours before, my sister Krystyna woke me up during the night with another headache. During winter 2007, she had moved home to Scranton, Lackawanna County, from Virginia on disability leave when she started having headaches and falling.
Local playwrights to perform next week
Two local playwrights will perform their work in solo shows in Scranton from Thursday through Sunday. “Acting Alone: Two Solo Plays on One Stage,” at Lackawanna College, will showcase Maureen McGuigan and Mandy Pennington. It is presented by the Scranton Fringe Festival.
Luzerne County Bar Association donates to Coffee Inclusive
Coffee Inclusive of Pittston recently received a $2,500 donation from the Luzerne County Bar Association’s Charitable Foundation. Coffee Inclusive is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering education, engagement, advocacy, skill development, and meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with diverse abilities, while promoting inclusion throughout our community. They operate an inclusive coffee shop on Kennedy Blvd., Pittston.

Scranton officials plan to repeal residency requirement
The City of Scranton plans to repeal a 4 decades long residency requirement that requires municipal employees to live in the Electric City. According to reports, Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti sent Scranton City Council a proposed ordinance to repeal the residency requirement across the board, for all city employees, including administrative employees not in any union. Mayor Cognetti said the residency requirement is impeding the city's ability to retain and attract quality employees to the City of Scranton. Council on Tuesday voted 3-2, with President Gerald Smurl, Bill King and Jessica Rothchild all in favor of the repeal, and Mark McAndrew and Tom Schuster opposed.

Millions in state budget for businesses
LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — The governor stopped in Duryea on Friday at the Production Systems Automation factory to tout the recently signed state budget. More than 500 million dollars will help the state grow more competitively with jobs, better pay, and more businesses. 20 million will go toward the Main Street Matters Program to help small businesses. PSA currently has 92 workers and is one of the 7,000 small businesses in Luzerne County with fewer than 100 employees. They say this money will go a long way.
