Tech-industry heavyweights have made Atherton, California, one of the nation’s richest zip codes. Billionaires Marc Andreessen and Eric Schmidt both listed their longtime homes in the affluent Silicon Valley enclave earlier this year for $33 million and $24.5 million , respectively, and now another home has come to market for $22.3 million, but you don’t have to run a Fortune 500 company to stake your claim. Billy McNair of the McNair Group at Coldwell Banker holds the listing.

Set in the heart of the unincorporated community of about 8,000 people, the custom-built estate at 138 Almendral Avenue was built in 2012 on nearly an acre of land. It houses five bedrooms and five bathrooms, plus three more powder rooms, across its 8,400 square feet of living space. Two home offices add to its potential for professional productivity, but the home is equally well suited to relaxation; spaces like the great room blur the lines between the indoor and outdoor living and entertaining areas.

The airy great room highlights the home’s indoor-outdoor design.

The abode’s charming façade towers over the front courtyard, where lush landscaping encompasses the home. Contemporary steel and glass doors at the entrance perfectly frame a unique wall display in the foyer before the fireside living room comes into focus. A wall of telescopic glass sliders peels open to a sun-splash terrace overlooking the manicured gardens. For hosting a dinner party, head over to the formal dining room, which will seat more than eight people next to French doors that open out to the grounds. Stainless steel appliances pop against white cabinetry in the nearby chef’s kitchen, which offers a massive island, a walk-in pantry and an adjoining breakfast nook.

The luxe primary suite with a vaulted ceiling and fireplace sits on the upper level, accessed via a floating staircase. Its en-suite bath includes dual vanities and a soaking tub, set next to a large walk-in closet and a private office. Three other en-suite bedrooms are located on the floor as well, plus a kids’ lounge area. Additional amenities like a recreation room with a temperature-controlled wine cellar and a fifth en-suite bedroom are found on the lower level.

The estate’s three-car garage is ideal for storing coveted rides, while the backyard features a large swimming pool and spa, plus an outdoor kitchen and loggia with a fireplace. Manicured hedges and mature trees create a verdant shield of privacy.
