Santa Barbara’s architectural landscape is dominated by Spanish Revival- and Mediterranean-inspired architecture , but the married furniture and textile designers Richard Frinier and Catherine Frinier had a different, more modern vision for their home along the California coastline in Montecito.

Cinched between Santa Barbara’s mountains and ocean, the Friniers’ oceanview home was designed to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living and to embrace slow living in relaxed Santa Barbara County. The Friniers, who own and operate an eponymous furniture, lighting, and textile design company, tapped renowned California-based architect Thiep Cung, CEO and principal of Warner Group Architects, to design a glass-walled sanctuary nestled within Montecito’s rugged and undulating landscape. Now, they’re selling the dreamy home for just shy of $12 million .

The streamlined kitchen overlooks the infinity-edge pool.

The home spans 4,578 square feet and has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and one powder room. The home’s entry sets the tone for the property’s design. The exterior is clad in gray walls with a flat roof, clean lines, and panes of glass. Inside is a tranquil and modern escape, with floor-to-ceiling walls of glass that overlook the dramatic landscape of mountains, ocean, and lush hillside from every vantage point.

The spaces feel even larger thanks to 12-foot-high ceiling heights in the main living areas and nine-foot-high ceilings in additional rooms. The most breathtaking part of the home is the oversized great room, with windows that seem to blur the boundaries between the indoors and out. The living space features a large fireplace and limestone floors, plus ample room for seating. Off the great room is a formal dining room with mountain views and a nearby chef’s kitchen with Bulthaup b3 custom cabinetry, Miele appliances, and a breakfast table. Each room is flooded with natural light.

A full-height wall of glass frames a stunning view of the mountains in the dining room.

The resort-like primary suite is the ultimate retreat and offers plenty of privacy, plus a spa-like bathroom with porcelain tile work and large mirrors and two massive walk-in closets. The entire home is outfitted with a whole-home water filtration system, solar heating, a high-tech Savant system to control the lighting, temperature, music, entertainment, skylights, automated shades, and security cameras. There’s also a garage with two charging stations designed for electric vehicles. Outside is the ultimate oasis and features heritage olive trees, a large pool, pool deck, and outdoor seating. The pool overlooks a garden area, and there is manicured landscaping throughout the entire backyard. Other amenities include an artist’s studio, office, and a bonus room. The home is listed with Natalie Grubb and Brian Campbell, Grubb Campbell Group of Village Properties/Forbes Global Properties.
