Nissan’s New Camper Van Has a Wood-Lined Cabin and Murphy Bed

Move over, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen . Nissan is the latest automaker to add an intruding camper van to its lineup.

The Japanese brand has just unveiled the series production My Room, a vehicle it first teased in 2022 as a concept and sold briefly as a limited “Launch Edition” last year, according to New Atlas. And, thanks to a wood-lined interior and a versatile Murphy bed, the new model just might be the company’s most attractive van yet.

The My Room isn’t the first camper van—or “caravan” as Nissan calls it—but it really does stand out from the rest of its peers. That’s because the vehicle isn’t trying to be everything to everyone, unlike a lot of today’s other more full-featured camper vans . The My Room may lack a kitchen and bathroom, but it does sport a stylish, minimalist design and everything you need for an escape to the beach.

    Inside the Nissan My Room

The My Room’s exterior may be rather utilitarian, but its cabin is gorgeous. The space, which is said to be inspired by hotel room design, features a clean look with wood-grain paneling on the floor, walls, and ceiling. The space is cut off from the van’s cockpit by a retractable curtain and a set of windows with wooden blinds give space an airy feel. There’s a pivoting multi-purpose second-row bench which can be turned toward the front or rear of the vehicle, as a full-length sliding table that can be used to turn the space into a workspace. Rounding things up is the fold-up Murphy bed in case you’re thinking about staying at your destination overnight.

That’s it as far as features go, but for someone looking for a vehicle they can take on a short, no-frills camping trip it should be more than enough. And while there are no built-in appliances or features, there’s enough space for stow-away portable fixtures should you want to bring a kitchenette on the road. There’s also a portable battery station to keep any gadgets you bring running.

Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, there’s a catch. You can’t buy the My Room in the U.S. right now. It’s currently set to go on sale this month in Japan, according to New Atlas. It will be available in either two- or four-wheel drive, with multiple trims to choose from at launch. Pricing will start at ¥5,516,500, or roughly $37,500.
