If beach parties in Ibiza aren’t your thing, maybe a heritage home with a contemporary twist in the Spanish countryside would be a nice fit for you. Set in San Mateo, a small village in the north of the island, a 500-year-old rural property built in a traditional finca style has hit the market. Listed with Charles Marlow for a cool €10.8 million (or about $11.8 million ), the sprawling residence was reconstructed two decades ago under the direction of renowned French architect Pascal Cheikh Djavadi . The current owners renovated the abode more recently, during which they added a new wing and tapped Netherlands-based interior designer Dymfy Erens to streamline and incorporate more modern and eclectic design elements alongside the historical touches.
“Finca Mateo presents an exceptional chance for those seeking a picturesque country retreat in Ibiza that blends historical charm with luxurious comfort,” said Tim Stacey, head of Charles Marlow’s Ibiza department. “The property’s meticulous reconstruction, coupled with a recent, thoughtful reimagining of its interior design, showcases a seamless fusion of classic finca elegance with contemporary sophistication. Few homes manage to balance the old with the new as successfully as this one does—Finca Mateo truly sets the standard for how to achieve this perfect harmony.”
Set on nearly 14 acres of land, the 5,242-square-foot stone-clad structure features a main house with two bedrooms, each with an en-suite bath, along with three separate guest accommodations that also have the added benefit of en-suite bathrooms. The meandering layout allows for multiple spots to relax, all of it complemented by the neutral color palette enlivened by an array of bold patterns. Externally, the grounds are decked out with a 55-foot-long swimming pool that overlooks a scenic valley.
“Outside, the finca’s location in the breathtaking Ibiza countryside enhances its charm, providing a serene retreat with an air of seclusion,” added Stacey. “Yet, the lively village of Santa Gertrudis is just a short 10-minute drive away, ensuring you’re never far from the island’s vibrant atmosphere.”
Over the last few years, Ibiza has become much more than a hotbed for glow stick-wielding partygoers. In fact, it’s now sought after as a wellness destination , and homebuyers are increasingly shopping for properties away from its bustling coast. Near Dalt Vila, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the island’s oldest hilltop neighborhoods, a 16th-century gem dubbed Palacio XI is on the market for $11.7 million. Of course, if you do want to live by the sea, a brand-new contemporary home on the west side of the island can be had for $18 million.
