Saks Fifth Avenue may be known for its ready-to-wear racks, experiential beauty kiosks, and a shoe floor with its own zip code, but to those in the know, the retailer, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary of the New York flagship, is also a renowned destination for jewelry, responsible for launching the careers of many designers and cultivating a multi-generation clientele of discerning collectors.

The retailer’s commitment to jewelry is apparent in its many renovations of the department over the years, from its “Jewelry on 2” debut, which curated modern designs, to the 2019 introduction of “The Vault,” an 11,000-square-foot space that brought high jewelry from the likes of Boucheron, Lorraine Schwartz, Graff, Chanel, and Chopard alongside watch brands such as IWC, Roger Dubuis, and Franck Muller in a series of private viewing rooms.

Now, the department store is taking its decades-long institutional jewelry knowledge to its own in-house line, a high jewelry collection that focuses on exceptional and rare diamonds set in classic-leaning pieces across traditional categories.

Comprised of more than 200 pieces, the collection includes solitaire diamonds ranging from 10 to 100 carats, plus a variety of set pieces that span from perfectly matched, classic round-brilliant diamond studs and diamond solitaire rings to an assortment of rivière necklaces that highlight different diamond cuts and settings, plus iterations of the classic tennis bracelet, diamond pendant and chandelier earring.

The collection’s pièce de résistance is a diamond drop necklace totaling more than 152 carats, including a rare 100-carat pear-shaped diamond. Other highlights include two matched radiant-cut Fancy Intense Yellow diamonds, set in yellow gold as drop earrings, hoop earrings with a series of oval-shaped Fancy Yellow diamonds, and cushion-cut white diamonds set in a blackened enamel over white gold rivière.

While Saks is among a handful of New York department stores with a legacy of reproducing Parisian couture for its clients during the 20th century, this is the first time that the retailer is offering an in-house, couture-level experience for its jewelry clients. With the high jewelry collection, the retailer will also offer bespoke services, allowing customers to create one-of-a-kind pieces, select specific stones and choose custom mountings with a high jewelry expert. The service also includes custom diamond cutting to allow shoppers to personalize their diamonds with special inscriptions (such as birthdays, initials or anniversaries).

“Saks Fifth Avenue has long been known as a premier destination for jewelry, and the launch of our own high jewelry collection further reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional quality, as well as our dedication to inspiring customers through highly personalized experiences,” said Saks Fifth Avenue’s chief merchandising officer Tracy Margolies in the collection’s release. “Luxury customers are continuously seeking timeless and one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.”

The high jewelry collection has already made its way to Saks NYC flagship, where it debuted on Aug. 26. The collection will also roll out at the retailer’s Beverly Hills location on Sept. 7 and the Naples, Fla. location in October. While the collection will be shared between the retailer’s three dedicated store locations, with offerings updated each season, customers can request a private appointment at any Saks Fifth Avenue location to utilize the program’s bespoke services.
