Frank Lloyd Wright is one of the world’s most notable architects , whose trailblazing style has inspired countless residential and commercial architectural designs. Wright was known for his use of natural materials, organic architecture, and a connection with nature. Most of his structures feature low-slung, flat roofs that appear to blend into the landscape. While this specific property at 6 Quail Meadow Drive in Woodside, California, wasn’t designed by Wright, his style permeates the entire home. This $14.5 million estate was designed in 1989 by architect William A. Churchill, who was heavily influenced by Wright’s design philosophy.

Woodside, a sleepy, affluent enclave on the edge of Silicon Valley, is known for its elegant variety of homes, from Italian-inspired mansions to historic trophy estates . High-profile past and current residents include Oracle founder Larry Ellison, Apple’s John Sculley, and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son. This pedigreed property, spanning almost 3.5 acres, lies along one of Woodside’s most sought-after residential streets. The wood and stone residence, capped by a distinctive angular roof fitted with solar panels, spans 8,660 square feet with a total of five bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and two half-bathrooms.

The airy, fireside living room is complemented by a wet bar.

A private driveway leads you to the home’s landscaped motor court, which is surrounded by an acre of professionally managed vineyards that produce Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Vermentino grape varietals. Inside, the contemporary home features soaring 35-foot-high teak ceilings with several skylights and a free-flowing floor plan. There are also teak-clad walls and floorboards throughout the expansive living and entertaining areas, as well as the kitchen, while oversized windows line nearly every room and flood the house with natural light.

After ascending up a flight of stairs near the entrance, you’re greeted with a bar. To one side of the bar is a sleek living room with a floor-to-ceiling marble fireplace and walls of windows that overlook the Santa Cruz Mountains, and nearby is a games room with a billiards table and seating for post-dinner gatherings. Other rooms on the main level include an airy, glass-walled formal dining room; a library/office with handcrafted bookshelves and a fireplace; and the kitchen, which features teak cabinets and a suite of state-of-the-art appliances that include a glass-fronted Sub-Zero refrigerator.

The surrounding landscape is on full view in the living room.

Tucked away from the kitchen and living spaces is the primary suite with soaring ceilings, a sitting area, and a private terrace overlooking the surrounding forest. There are two walk-in closets, two full bathrooms, and a hot tub. The home’s additional four bedrooms overlook either the gardens, vineyards, or woods, and each sports oversized windows and a sumptuous bathroom. Additional amenities include wet and dry saunas, a massage room, gym, 1,000-bottle wine cellar, four-car garage, and a second kitchen and bathroom that act as a mini-apartment for overnight guests.

The property’s stunning outdoor amenities and views make it feel like an entertaining oasis. A spacious multi-level pool deck is complete with an outdoor kitchen area, al fresco dining, ample lounging, and a large swimming pool with an elevated hot tub.
