A rare 2019 XE SV Project 8 is currently up for bid on Bring a Trailer. The muscular sedan offers up a reminder of what the British marque used to be as it prepares to relaunch itself as an EV maker.
Jaguar’s peak may be far off in the rear-view mirror, but the XE SV Project 8 is proof that it was still making excellent performance vehicles as recently as a half-decade ago. The four-door won’t ever be thought of alongside the E-Type or XJ220, but had a big V-8 that helped deliver the kind of thrills once closely associated with the brand. At one point, it was the most powerful street-legal Jaguar and even held the lap record for a production sedan at the Nurburgring Nordschleife after circling the notorious track in just 7:18.36 minutes. It was also rare, with just 300 examples ever rolling off the line.
The XE SV Project 8 up for auction is finished in SVO Valencia Orange and features a matte black graphics package that includes a racing stripe and a giant pouncing Jaguar. The sparkling hue helps accentuate the carbon-fiber body kit that includes a new front splitter, bulbous fenders in the front and back, as well as a giant rear wing. It rides on a set of gloss black 20-inch rims wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires that offer a peek at its yellow ceramic brake calipers. The design of the cabin is a bit more sedate, but the space is covered in black leather and microsuede upholstery, along with special SV Project 8 logos.
Under the car’s sculpted hood, you’ll find a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8. The brawny mill is mated to an eight-speed automatic that splits the 592 hp and 516 ft lbs of torque it makes between all four wheels. Thanks to all the power, the car can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 mph. This example, which is being sold by its original owner, has just 12,000 miles on the odometer, so those numbers should remain within reach.
Do you have a spot in your collection for a Jaguar-made super sedan? The XE SV Project 8 auction runs through Monday, September 30. As of press time, bidding had reached $80,000. Don’t be surprised if that number starts to climb in the coming days, especially since the four-door originally cost $188,495.
