    Falcon and Pirate wrestlers take on Section 5AAA meet

    Park Center and Robbinsdale Armstrong both took part in the Section 5AAA wrestling meet on Feb. 17 at Rogers High School.

    Armstrong took on Maple Grove in the quarterfinals, falling 44-29 to the Crimson, who were knocked out themselves in the next round by Wayzata.

    Notable performances by Armstrong wrestlers in the matchup with Maple Grove included Andrew Ankeny’s (121) win over Logan Buman via a fall. Bram Hetten (139) also won his match, defeating Amir Bouzouma via a fall.

    Armstrong did well in the higher weight classes, getting wins from Avery Oseth (172), Fred Dassin (189) and Sebastian Tavarez (285).

    Park Center defeated the host Rogers by a score of 45-27 in the quarterfinals, earning a spot in the semifinals against St. Michael-Albertville. Park Center lost 68-3 to the eventual conference champs. STMA went on to the finals where defeated beat Wayzata, 46-15.

    Owen Yang (107), Kai Beattie (121), Zaye Vang (133), Aaron Dungy (145), Jackson Sanders (152), Jacob Hansen (160), and Samouka Kanneh (189) all earned wins in Park Center’s victory over Rogers. Jacon Hansen then also earned Park Center its one win against St. Michael-Albertville via a 6-4 decision.

    The Section 5AAA individual meet will provide another opportunity for these programs and wrestlers to shine on Saturday, Feb. 24, hosted at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
