Hackenmueller’s Meat Market for sale

Meatloaf, steak tails, pot pies, hamburgers and more line the freezers at Hackenmuellers Meat Market in Robbinsdale. Jerky and sausages can be found smoking in the back while customers can find a deli full of salads, chips, pickles and ice cream up front.

At over 130 years old, Hackenmueller’s Meat Market is the oldest continuing business in Robbinsdale. Gordy Lindenfelser, who lives in St. Michael and bought the business in 1979, has put it up for sale.

“When I bought this place, they didn’t even have a walk-in freezer,” Lindenfelser said. “They just had four chest freezers.”

He’s added an expansion, more freezers and fridges. Everything goes out on a display for customers.

“I love the people,” Hackenmueller said. “You give them quality for a fair price, service. ... We make a lot of our stuff here.”

However, the labor has become difficult as he’s gotten older. Last year, Lindenfelser put the store on the market.

“I can’t do it no more, my legs and back — I don’t want to sell it. But if you can’t do it, you have to move on,” Lindenfelser said.

A few people are interested in buying the business. Lindenfelser hopes to sell this year or next.

“It’s gonna be sad the day I sell it, I know that,“ Lindenfelser said. “It’ll be a happy sadness. But I just hope the person who takes it over does a good job like I did. I don’t wanna leave it, I plan to work it part time. ”

The store is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays at 4159 West Broadway, Robbinsdale.
