    Introduction

    - Brief overview of Allsup's convenience stores and their reputation in the Southwest region.

Allsup's is a privately owned chain of over 400 convenience stores in New Mexico, West Texas, and Oklahoma. It operates 24 hours a day and sells fuel under various brands.

    Allsup's History

It was established in 1956 by Lonnie and Barbara Allsup in Roswell, NM as Lonnie's Drive-In Grocery. Lonnie, a US Air Force veteran from the Korean War, developed it into a chain.

Allsup's pioneered self-serve gas pumps and is New Mexico's top privately owned corporation, boasting the largest convenience store chain in the state.

It is known particularly for its world-famous burritos and chimichangas. The founder, Lonnie Allsup, died in January 2018

On October 8, 2019, Yesway purchased Allsup's Convenience Stores Inc.

"All of us at Yesway are excited to be joining together with Allsup's, one of the most iconic and adored convenience store chains in the country," stated Tom Trkla, chairman and CEO of Yesway.

In 2020, the company decided to transfer the home office operations from its former location in New Mexico to a new headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.

    Allsup's Expansion into North Texas

Allsup’s has opened three new North Texas locations, with more in the works. The news comes shortly after the chain closed a location near the University of North Texas in Denton, just about six months after the 24-hour store opened.

The new stores in North Texas include:

    • 1202 W. Highway 287 South in Bowie in Montague County
    • 2600 W. Bardwell Drive in Ennis in Ellis County

Building is correspondingly underway on stores at:

    • 100 E. U.S. Highway 67 in Keene in Johnson County (expected to open in late November)
    • 9704 Highway 87 in Lubbock
    • 2450 Southeast Access Road in Mount Vernon (expected to open in early October)
Allsup’s already has stores in Aubrey, Azle, Clifton, Decatur, Granbury, Justin, Lake Dallas, Mineral Wells, Sachse, and Stephenville, according to their website.

Yesway plans to open 10 new retail stores in Oklahoma this year, building on existing locations in Altus, Frederick, Guymon, Madill, Broken Bow, and Thackerville as part of their expansion strategy.
