Leona Frances Ayres, a beloved homemaker and devoted mother, passed away on August 12, 2024, in Greenbrier, TN.

She was born on November 14, 1924, in Springfield, TN to the late Georgie and Maude Ellis, where she spent her early years before embarking on a journey filled with love, hard, and selflessness.

Leona’s days were dedicated to raising her three daughters, Linda (John) Beam, Brenda Hunter and Martha (Tommy) Patterson, whom she cherished deeply. She found immense joy in watching her children grow, teaching them values of love, dedication, and perseverance. Her role as a mother extended beyond just providing for her family; she was a loving and stern figure, a caregiver, and a self-sacrificing soul who put the needs of her loved ones above her own.

One of Leona’s many talents was sewing, a skill she masterfully used to create beautiful clothes for her daughters and even crafted a total of ten wedding gowns over the years. Her commitment to her family shone through in every stitch and seam, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever.

Aside from sewing, Leona also enjoyed quilting, solving puzzles, and crocheting, hobbies that brought her solace and relaxation. Her quiet moments spent with these activities were a testament to her creative spirit and attention to detail.

Through her hard work and unwavering dedication, Leona’s proudest accomplishment was the beautiful, loving family she helped create. The bond she nurtured with her husband, Clarence Edward Ayres, who preceded her in death, along with her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, will continue to be a testament to her legacy of love and laughter.

Leona’s memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her surviving family members, including her daughters, Linda and Martha, her 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition, she is preceded in death by husband Clarence Edward Ayres; daughter, Brenda Hunter; 1 sister and 4 brothers, as well as a wide circle of friends and relatives who were touched by her kindness and warmth.

Services to honor and celebrate Leona’s life will be held at the Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 4005 Memorial Blvd, Springfield, TN 37172. Visitation will take place on August 15, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on August 16, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM and burial at 2:00 PM on the same day. https://www.springfieldfh.com
