Pirates rally past Phillies in ninth on Nick Gonzales’ hit
Nick Gonzales ripped a walk-off RBI single to cap a two-run ninth inning and lift the host Pittsburgh Pirates to an 8-7 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. Connor Joe singled and Andrew McCutchen worked a walk off Jose Alvarado (1-4) to begin the ninth inning. Pinch-runner Michael A. Taylor and McCutchen each stole a base to put runners in scoring position, and both came home after a fielder’s choice from Oneil Cruz and Gonzales’ single to left field.

The Pittsburgh Penguins selected defenseman Harrison Brunicke with the 44th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft after trading away their first-round pick to the San Jose Sharks for Erik Karlsson in 2023. Brunicke, a South African native who moved to Canada as a child, signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Penguins. He recently played for the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL, scoring 21 points in 49 games and is expected to return for the 2024-25 season.
