Summer Guide 2024 (Mid-to-Late Season): Festivals, Fairs, and Events
Summertime is undoubtedly the fastest time of year. It goes by much faster than, say, January, February, and March. We are now in the back half of summer. The peaches are ripening nicely and the summer season is at it’s peak. Maybe you’ve been enjoying summer fun since the start, maybe you’ve been tied up with work and other activities. Well, either way, it’s time to squeeze every last bit of juice out of the summer season. Before we know it, pumpkin spice will soon be appearing everywhere. You may have your own list of summer faves. We have also put together a curated list of some of the Pittsburgh region’s longtime stalwart summer events, plus a few more unique events. We live in a beautiful natural region and have included several picks in that realm too.
Broadsided: Pirates 8, Phillies 7
The Phillies lost for just the third time this season after leading following eight innings as José Alvarado was not able to hold a one run lead in the ninth. Pittsburgh secured an 8-7 comeback win in a game that Philadelphia led 7-4 entering the seventh inning. Despite scoring 7 runs, the Phillies offense still managed to strand 11 baserunners and Aaron Nola struggled to hold early leads.

Nick Gonzales hits winning single in 9th, Pirates rally for 8-7 win over Phillies
PITTSBURGH — Nick Gonzales hit the winning RBI single in the ninth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied from a three-run deficit for an 8-7 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. With the Pirates trailing 7-6, Connor Joe led off the ninth with a single before José Alvarado (1-4) walked Andrew McCutchen. Michael A. Taylor, running for Joe, and McCutchen executed a double steal. Oneil Cruz brought in the tying run on a one-out fielder's choice. Gonzales then sent a first-pitch cutter through the left side of the infield to bring home the winning run. Carmen Mlodzinski got the win. Weston Wilson and Trea Turner homered for the Phillies.
