GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Three weeks after a gunman opened fired at a splash pad in southeastern Michigan, the last of the nine people injured was released from the hospital Friday, authorities say.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that the 39-year-old Rochester Hills woman was shot multiple times trying to protect her children. The Associated Press previously reported she was hit in the abdomen and leg.

Her 8-year-old son was shot in the head and her 4-year-old son in the leg, but both survived and were previously released from the hospital.

“While we are incredibly pleased all shooting victims have been released from the hospital, we know there is a long road ahead on both the physical and psychological healing,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement . “Our support will remain with the victims, and we will continue to look for any information that gives insight into the motive of the shooter.”

The shooting happened June 15 at a splash pad in the Detroit suburb of Rochester Hills. Two children and seven adults were injured, but no victims were killed.

The shooter later took his own life when the police closed in on him.

Authorities have indicated the attack was random — the shooter didn’t have any link to those shot or the splash pad.
