Championship baseball continues to be played in St. Peter as the 15 year old AAA Saints team overcame a gauntlet in the state tournament played in Rochester last weekend. Facing both the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded teams on the path to the title, St. Peter handled its business to finish its summer at the top of the mountain.

The team, consisting of Max Hollerich, Joe Greening, Max Welp, Ryan Moelter, Finley Olson, Alex Korir, Ethan Potts, Carter Wills, Ashton Guida, Owen Potts and Kyler Link finished the summer with a record of 18-8-1 including an 8-0-1 record in league play. The Saints, which finished third out of 32 teams in the Sioux Falls Tournament earlier this year, started the state tournament facing off against the No. 2 seeded Lake Elmo squad.

After defeating Lake Elmo 8-3, the Saints faced top seeded Wayzata but continued their run with an upset victory, 4-3, setting up a championship matchup with Albany. The drama was low in the championship game as the Saints, led by Ashton Guida and Alex Korir on the mound, shutout the Diamond Dawgs to win 5-0 and claim the title.
