The Rochester Slammers 8-and-under softball team moved to 30-0 this summer after Aria Lanciano's walk-off single clinched the New England Regional Babe Ruth championship in their age group.

Lanciano's hit completed a rally from down 8-0 as Rochester defeated a team from Stamford, Connecticut, 11-10, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, to win the regional title recently. Rochester had won the New Hampshire Babe Ruth state tournament the weekend prior.

Rochester also won tournaments in Litchfield, Londonderry, Barrington and Rochester. Coach Jake Moody said winning all the tournaments are of course great achievements, but the team had two circled when the summer kicked off.

"The states and the regionals were the biggest goal, and these girls achieved that," Moody said. "In unbelievable fashion, really."

The Slammers opened the summer in Litchfield before Memorial Day, and Moody said it was 'very apparent' there the team would be special.

"And we told them that," Moody said. "Just the way they hit the ball and how the gelled together as a team; you could see something was building very early on ... I expected success, but I didn't expect 30-0 and six tournament wins."

A few weeks ago, the Slammers were honored before a New Hampshire Fisher Cats game against Portland on Friday night. The team was on the field pregame for the first pitch and the national anthem, although the game did get rained out shortly after started in the first inning. The team also got to meet the players on the Fisher Cats.

Rochester's roster includes Amelia Taylor, Annika Congram, Aria Lanciano, Charlie Jerr, Charlotte Blouin, Emersyn Moody, Freya Stewart, Harper Johnson, Juliana Lapointe, Kenadie O’Neill, Penelope Dick and Tori Martinen

Coaches are Jake Moody, Tom Stewart, Brandon Congram and Mike Blouin.
