Nixon Peabody has been a presence in downtown Rochester for 149 years.

That will change next year when the law firm leaves Clinton Square, where it has operated since 1990, for High Point Business Park in Victor, Ontario County.

Nixon Peabody officials announced the move July 1, saying it will happen in August 2025, when the firm's current lease at Clinton Square expires.

A spokesperson said approximately 60 attorneys and 260 employees total now work in 140,000 square feet at Clinton Square, which has 330,000 square feet of office space and stands 14 stories.

The Victor location measures 50,000 square feet.

“With shifting work dynamics following the pandemic, Nixon Peabody will optimize its new space to provide greater flexibility and adaptability for its people while also requiring a smaller overall footprint than during pre-pandemic times,” the company said in a statement.

In the statement, Jared C. Lusk, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Rochester office, said: “We worked diligently with our current landlord to stay in our current space. They have been good partners for over 30 years, and we appreciate the relationship. High Point ultimately offers our firm the best opportunity for our future.”

Nixon Peabody’s roots date to 1875, when it started in Rochester as Satterlee & Yeoman. A number of name changes followed, and in 1999 it merged with Boston-based law firm Peabody & Brown, resulting in the current name.

It has 15 offices in the United States, Europe and Asia.
