ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Section Five baseball had a big day on Monday.

For the first time ever, two Rochester players were selected in the top four rounds of the June Major League Baseball draft. The previous high for two local players was in 2017 when Ernie Clement was taken in the 4th round and Logan Harasta went in the 7th round.

The first pick was Greece Athena grad Casey Saucke. He went to the Chicago White Sox in round four at pick 107 overall.

He was Gatorade New York State Baseball High School Player of the Year in 2021 and played the last three seasons at Virginia where he made second team All-ACC as an outfielder.

Saucke joins Danny Mendick as the second Rochester native in the White Sox organization.

Twelve picks later, Penfield grad Gage Ziehl was taken number 119 overall by the New York Yankees.

This is the second time Ziehl was drafted. He decided not to sign with the Cubs when he was picked in the 11th round out of high school in 2021.

Ziehl played the last three seasons at the University of Miami and was a member of the starting rotation over the last two. MLB Pipeline had him as a top 100 prospect.
