ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A former chief of the Border City Hose Company pleaded guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from the company.

According to the NYS Comptroller’s Office, 71-year-old John Morabito admitted to stealing $18,772 from the fire company, which serves residents in Geneva and Waterloo.

From 2015 to 2021, while Morabito was chief, he stole $16,000 in donations, rental hall payments, and income. He also used the home improvement store’s credit card to purchase supplies, tools, bathroom light fixtures, and a table saw for his home. All of those totaled $2,200.

He pleaded guilty to misapplication of property. He was sentenced to a conditional discharge and had to pay back full restitution. He will be banned from all fiduciary responsibilities with the company if he rejoins.
