BELOIT — The Rock County Fury took away a little of the drama heading into Tuesday night’s conference finale with the Madison Metro Lynx by having the Badger Conference championship already clinched.

But that didn’t stop either team from playing all-out in the showdown at the Edwards Ice Arena.

The Fury had collected a 3-2 win in double overtime over the Metro Lynx on the road. Tuesday they had the tables turned on them as they lost by the same score in single OT.

The loss was the Fury’s first in conference play and left them 11-1-0. They are, 16-7-0 overall. The Lynx finished 10-2 in conference and are 13-11 overall.

“It was a heartbreaker being up 2-0 and then losing in overtime, but the girls played with everything they had,” Fury head coach Luke Steurer said. “The intensity was amazing. We thought we had them, but there were a couple of lucky bounces and they had somebody there on the backside each time to tap it in before we could get someone there.”

Emma Kligora put Rock County ahead 1-0 with assists by Ava Kligor and Lily Clark at 14:23 of the first period.

The Fury tacked on the only goal of the second period when Clark scored off assists from Emma Kligora and Maizy Fonseca.

The Metro Lynx, a co-op including Verona, Middleton, Madison Edgewood, Madison Memorial, Mount Horeb and Madison West, stormed back in the third period. Emma Stebbeds made it 2-1 with an unassisted goal at the 13:12 mark and Sophie Wilde tied it at 3:04.

The Lynx scored the game-winner at 1:56 by Annalice Delebroux off assists by Scout Elmer and Willa Lenaker.

Rock County goalie Jillian Traver had a whopping 55 saves, including seven in the overtime. Addy Buzzell had 20 for the Lynx.

“They had a lot of shots, but our defense limited their quality shots,” Steurer said. “All three of our lines played some excellent defense. Still, Jillian (Traver) just stood on her head making some saves to keep us in there.”
