Rock County Fury players, coach pick up postseason awards

Rock County Fury coach Luke Steurer and senior forward Emma Kligora added to the team’s conference championship-winning season with awards from the Badger Conference.

Steurer was named the league’s girls hockey coach of the year, and Kligora was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection and was named the conference’s player of the year.

Kligora, a Milton High School student, finished third in the state in total points with 57. That total included a state-leading 37 goals and 20 more assists.

Two more Fury players also landed on the conference’s first team, freshman defenseman Sophia Young of Janesville Parker High and senior goaltender Jillian Traver of Beloit Memorial High.

Traver went 16-8-0 in the regular season and saved 93.3% of shots she faced. Rock County won in shutout fashion four times thanks to Traver and Young, who also had three goals and seven assists on the year.

Ava Kligora, a Milton High sophomore for the Fury, was named a second-team all-conference forward. She was third in the state in assists with 26 and scored 16 goals to finish with 42 total points on the year.

Another Fury sophomore, Macy Murphy of Janesville Craig, made the Badger Conference honorable mention list. She scored 19 goals and had 16 assists in the regular season to finish with 35 points.

Steurer led the team to a 16-8-0 overall record and an 11-1-0 mark in conference games. The Fury ended the Madison Metro Lynx’s two-year run as undefeated conference champs, claiming the title for themselves by starting conference play 11-0-0.
