ROCK HALL — Wednesday night, July 3, the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company hosted and sponsored their fireworks display at Rock Hall Harbor. It was the first fireworks event in Kent County, kicking off the festivities in the town.

Former mayor Brian Jones said the attendance was comparable to previous years, with many families spending the evening in Rock Hall.

They huddled beside the water witnessing a magnificent display of about $25,000 fireworks, from the vendor, Starfire Corporation out of St Benedict, PA.

Despite the big turnout with many parked vehicles, Police Chief William Dempsey reported there were no incidents.

    “All went well,” Dempsey said.

Jones, who is also the public information officer for the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company, commended the event.

“Rock Hall has hosted one of the premier July 4th celebrations in the region for over 30 years. This first-class event attracts not only community members but also visitors from nearby counties and states seeking a dazzling fireworks display! It is an event which gives our town recognition and pride, and puts us on the map! Year after year we have counted on our community for support for our efforts to make this event a memorable one for all.”

Cook added, “The 4th of July fireworks lighting up Rock Hall’s harbor was a proud moment, I appreciate everyone who pitched in to make it happen. From community fundraising to the dedication of volunteers, especially the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company, it was a celebration of teamwork and community spirit that honored our nation’s history and the enduring spirit of freedom. It is just one of those things that brings people together.”

The fireworks were followed by more events the next day, consisting of the 4th of July Parade, the Independence Day Festival at the Civic Center with live music fun events, rides and games, a drive-thru Pit Beef Sale at the Rock Hall American Legion, a drive-thru Fish Fry at the firehouse and Watermen’s Day and Boat Docking Contest, July 7, at the Rock Hall bulkhead on Bayside Avenue.
