This school year, new teachers in Rock Hill can expect to see more in their paychecks.

The Rock Hill School Board passed its $239 million budget, which went into effect on Monday and included pay increases for its teachers.

For the coming 2024-2025 school year, teachers with no experience will see the base salary increased to $52,000, a little more than $8,000 above what was offered during the previous school year.

A full breakdown of the district’s salary increases based on years of experience may be found on its website . The increase is among the highest in York County, school officials said.

The increase also exceeds the base pay for teachers in North Carolina, which is expects to increase to $41,000 for the coming school year, the Charlotte Observer reported previously.

The new budget did not cost taxpayers any additional increases or raises to the local levy, school officials said.

“We wanted to make sure we were taking steps in the right direction,” said Lindsay Machak, the district’s spokeswoman. “We value our teachers in Rock Hill schools; they are the heartbeat of the community.

“Not only is our pay amazing, we also have lots of teacher support throughout the year. We have robust professional development opportunities and we work to empower our teachers to have the tools they need to inspire success in our children.”

The school district anticipates at least $6.3 million from state sources, according to school board meeting documents , as well as a $511,397 increase for local and intergovernmental sources.

The budget also provided a 2.25% pay increase on the state base for bus drivers and increases to school resource and security officers.
