United Way Quad Cities awarding 12 local organizations more than $144K
On Wednesday, July 10, United Way Quad Cities announced it would administer more than $144,000 in grant funding to a dozen local organizations. To be eligible for the funding, the organizations had to help provide emergency food, shelter and rental assistance in Scott and Rock Island Counties.
Board reinstates Iowa doctor’s license after conviction for assaulting patient
The Iowa Board of Medicine has agreed to reinstate the license of a physician criminally charged with sexually abusing a patient. In December 2018, Dr. Venkateswara Karuparthy, a pain management physician from Bettendorf, was charged with sexual abuse in Rock Island County, Illinois, part of the Iowa-Illinois Quad Cities metro area. Prosecutors alleged that in August 2018 he fondled a female colleague at Integrative Pain Centers while providing medical care to her. Shortly after the charges were filed, Karuparthy agreed to refrain from practicing medicine in Iowa.
