New York Governor Empowers Domestic Violence Survivors With $5M Grants
Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a significant investment of $5 million in grants to 65 domestic violence service providers across New York State. These funds are dedicated to directly supporting survivors and victims of domestic violence, addressing critical needs and fostering financial empowerment. This initiative fulfills a key promise outlined in Governor Hochul's 2024 State of the State address by establishing the Survivors Access Financial Empowerment (SAFE) Fund.
NY weather: Flash flood warning issued for Chemung and Steuben counties until Saturday night
On Saturday at 8:16 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning in effect until 11:30 p.m. for Chemung and Steuben counties. "At 8:16 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly," says the weather service. "Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas."
