    Rock Valley College bowling teams both win national championships

    LANSING, Mich. — The Rock Valley College women’s bowling team led wire-to-wire for a 308-pin victory over Hawkeye Community College and a third straight NJCAA Women’s Bowling National Championship.

    Former Hononegah High School standout Madison Davenport, a freshman, led RVC’s women to a 12,233 total at Royal Scot Lanes. Hawkeye CC was at 11,925, followed by Iowa Western CC (11,754), Barton CC (11,645) and Joliet Junior College (11,064).

    Davenport won All Events and was named the Most Valuable Bowler with a total pinfall of 2,313 and a 192.8 average. Another Hononegah product, Kyley Olson, finished sixth with a total pinfall of 2,164 and an average of 180.3.

    In the singles portion of the tournament, Davenport shot a 602 series, good enough for third place. Olson and Davenport finished in second place in Doubles with Olson rolling a 504 series and Davenport a 552. Both were named to the NJCAA All-American teams.

    RVC’s men’s bowling team also led from the start to also three-peat and claim their fourth national title overall.

    Two Hononegah graduates also played a key role in RVC amassing 13,025 points to hold off Iowa Western CC (12,569). Iowa Western CC (12,543) was third, followed by SUNY Erie CC (12,505) and Joliet Junior College (12,283).

    Ex-Indian Connor Mooney finished second in All Events for the second year in a row with a total pinfall of 2,358 and an average of 196.5. In singles, Hononegah grad Christian Bauer was second with a 638 series.

    Mooney earned All-American status.

    Both the RVC men and women will next compete in the USBC Sectionals tournament in Addison, Ill. The Top 80 teams in the entire country (2 year and 4 year colleges) will compete for a chance to advance to the Intercollegiate Team Championships April 17-20 at Kingpin Lanes in Louisville, KY. The top 4 teams from each Sectional will advance.

    • WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: The Rock Valley College women’s basketball team routed visiting Black Hawk from Moline, Ill., 87-48, to advance in the NJCAA DII Regionals.

    The Golden Eagles (32-0) were tied 19-19 after the first quarter, but outscore the visitors 27-5 in the second quarter and 20-5 in the third to win easily. Beloit Memorial graduate Bre Davis had 16 points and Clinton graduate Elli Teubert had 10. Hononegah grad Carly LaMay had four points and three assists.
