That’s right, the Madison Witches Ride is back for a second year and raising money for a great cause. This year the event, hosted by Madison Visionary Partners, is kicking off the fundraising for Madison’s very own splash pad! If you are tired of having no place to cool off in these hot summers and sick of loading up the car to drive to surrounding cities to have a day of water play, we hope you’ll be passionate about this community project.A Parks and Recreation survey in 2023 listed a splash pad as a high priority for Madison residents. “Twenty-eight percent of Madison’s population is under the age of 18,” said Melanie Thornton, Executive Director of Madison Visionary Partners. “As Madison’s community nonprofit, we see this as a great opportunity to provide to the current and future kids of Madison.”If you didn’t attend last year’s inaugural ride, you might wonder what exactly a Witches Ride entails. This fun, 1-mile parade in Madison is a great way to celebrate the Halloween season. The parade will feature festive local witches riding their brooms (bikes) or strolling through Madison spreading Halloween cheer by tossing candy to hundreds of onlooking children along the way. After the witches fly, stay for the Black Hat Block Party and Barks and Boos Pet Parade!Spectators can park at the Madison City Stadium starting at 2:00 p.m. and nab their spots along the parade route. The Witches will fly starting at 3:00 p.m. from Journey Middle School to Home Place Park. The Barks and Boos Pet Parade follows the witches, and all spectators are invited to the Black Hat Block Party at Home Place Park following the parade. There’s even prizes to the witches with the Best Costume Overall, Best Group Costume, Best Cackle, Best Pet Costume, etc. Registration opens to the general public on September 1. All witches welcome – good and bad, sweet or spooky, goofy or gorgeous! Get your friends together and form a Witch Squad with your favorite costumes or fly solo!Registration fees are $50 for witches and includes your choice of a Madison Witches Ride magnet or sticker. The Barks and Boos Pet Parade registration is $25 per pet. All witches must be at least 18 years old to participate, as well as sign a liability waiver. All funds will go towards the City of Madison splash pad project.
