RCM Book Club Review: HOW TO KEEP HOUSE WHILE DROWNING by K. C. Davis
This past Wednesday, my hubby came to me because our sister-in-law needed a place to host a birthday party for our brother because the original plan fell through. In the past, this would have sent me into a panic. But this time, no panic ensued. I cleaned the bathroom, dusted the living room furniture and vacuumed. It took less than an hour. What helped me? The Rocket City Mom Virtual Book Club selection for November/December, How to Keep House While Drowning: A Gentle Approach to Cleaning and Organizing by K. C. Davis, LPC. No book has so entirely changed my thinking and behavior.

Bridge Street Hosting Festive Holiday Events for Families
For my kids the holidays are all about Santa, hot chocolate, and snow. For me it’s more about the music, Christmas lights, and snow. There is one place each holiday season that provides almost everything on both our lists – snow in Alabama is still rare enough to be a novelty. Bridge Street Town Center lights its giant Christmas tree each year around mid-November and if you aren’t already in the holiday mood by then, these FREE family-friendly events will get you there.

The Night We Lost Santa
Every once in a while we read a post that brings us to our knees. Something that humbles us, scares us, makes us declare, “THIS! This is what it feels like to be a parent!” We are quite fortunate to have Miss Zoot as a guest writer and hope you’ll go visit her site soon and often.
How to Create a Book Advent Calendar for Kids
It seems that everywhere I shop or click these days, I see a new idea for an Advent calendar: 24 days of cheese, wine, chocolate, even cosmetics. Young or old, we all get caught up in counting down to Christmas. So this year, I’m making a calendar out of my favorite things – books! A Book Advent Calendar is a great way to shift the focus toward experiences rather than things.

Wonderland Under Warrior: Santa’s Underground Workshop at Rickwood Caverns
Tradition and holiday go together like cookies and milk. Each year, like many other families in North Alabama, our family indulges in our favorite annual traditions, but every once in a while something new is put in our path to tempt our curious, adventure-craving hearts. This year, Santa’s Underground Workshop: Wonderland Under Warrior at Rickwood Caverns State Park in Warrior, AL proved just the sort of new-to-us merry adventure we love most: a combination of nature’s spectacle and the pageantry of holiday razzle dazzle. We enjoyed our visit to Rickwood Caverns earlier this year and seize this opportunity to go back during Christmas!
The Living Christmas Tree Is Back for 2023
My first Christmas spent in Huntsville I was told by several native Huntsvillians that The Living Christmas Tree presented at First Baptist Church in Huntsville was a tradition I could not miss. I was a big fan of Lake Wobegon tales, and my favorite is “The Living Flag”, a hilarious story about a small town that celebrates the 4th of July by donning red, white, and blue baseball caps and standing in the formation of Old Glory. So when I heard the words “Living” and “Tree” I was all ears.
Give a Flood of Books This Christmas!
There’s an old holiday tradition in Iceland called Jolabokaflod and it’s something we think Huntsville should start embracing ASAP. This national custom translates to “Yule book flood”, and it’s celebrated by exchanging books and spending the evening reading them on Christmas Eve. How perfect is that???
Back for 2023 – Fantasy Playhouse Presents “A Christmas Carol”
With one obvious exception, there is probably no tale that is so closely associated with the holiday season or more embodies what Christmas is all about than Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This famous tale of a miser’s journey to self-redemption has been re-imagined countless times in novels, plays, musicals, movies and television. For me, it doesn’t truly feel like Christmas until I’ve watched some version of this story and heard that classic line from Tiny Tim, “God bless us, every one!”
Firing Santa Claus
“Mr. Claus, after lengthy consideration, we regret to inform you that we are eliminating your position from the Christmas season. We thank you for your years of service and wish you well in all your future endeavors.”. Gasp!. But, stop. Consider. Is that so crazy? Why can’t it be Christmas...
