    Rockford man accused of hiding cannabis in crotch of his pants with intent for delivery

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office arrested Dontey Davis, 28, for allegedly transporting cannabis in the crotch of his pants for delivery.

    On July 1st, around 3:35 p.m., deputies said they saw a driver driving a Toyota Avalon not wearing a seatbelt in the area of 6th Street and 18th Avenue. When police made the traffic stop at 6th Street and 21st Avenue, they could smell a strong odor of cannabis, officials said.

    Davis told authorities he did not have insurance and that he had cannabis tucked in the crotch of his shorts, according to court records.

    Davis was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Unlawful Possession of a Defaced Firearm, Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin, Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Deliver Cannabis, and Possession of Cannabis in 2021 and is currently on parole for selling drugs.

    Davis is being charged with driving on a revoked license and manufacturing and delivering cannabis. He is lodged in the Winnebago County Justice Center.
