Firefighters kept busy in Rockford on the 4th of July: Four house fires in 16 hours

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rockford Fire Department spent the Fourth of July holiday putting out multiple house fires and said the causes of those fires are under investigation.

According to the fire department, by 7:30 a.m. on Friday, firefighters had extinguished four fires in the prior 16 hours, including:

4:50 p.m. in the 900 block of Sunset Avenue;
12:39 a.m. in the 1000 block of Montague Street:

Simultaneously, at 12:43 a.m., firefighters arrived at a vacant home in the 2100 block of Martha Street and found fire coming from a first-floor window. Authorities say the building suffered $25,000 in damages.

At 2:42 a.m. in the 1100 block of S. Church Street, which resulted in two adults losing their homes. Firefighters said the fire started in a garage in the 300 block of Morgan Street and spread to the Church Street home. Damages were estimated at $75,000.

A firefighter suffered a minor injury during the Montague Street fire, officials said, but no one else was injured.
