    Sinkholes open in UW Health SwedishAmerican parking lot

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Sinkholes opened at UW Health SwedishAmerican on Monday, one by the front entrance and another in the ambulance bay of the ER.

    Crews worked to repair the pavement and fill the holes on Monday afternoon.

    The main E. State Street entrance remains blocked off and city inspectors have been summoned to inspect the site.

    Heavy rains and flooding battered the city for two nights in a row, with a third round of severe weather forecast for Monday night .

    Weather stations reported over 6″ of rainfall fell in a matter of hours on Saturday night.

    Numerous cars were stranded in the flooded waters, and law enforcement reported multiple water rescues.

    A 76-year-old man reportedly drowned after becoming trapped in a pickup truck that was swept into Keith Creek in the Schnucks parking lot on Charles Street.
